Upholstery Cleaning Cost: What to Expect in Kansas City
Upholstery cleaning prices vary more than most homeowners expect. A small loveseat and a large sectional are very different jobs. Heavily soiled fabric or pet odor treatment changes the cost. And the cleaning method matters more than most people realize when it comes to the quality of the result.
Here’s what goes into the price, what our minimum looks like, and what to ask before you book.
What drives the cost
Piece size and surface area. A loveseat takes less time and product than a full sectional. More cushions means more work. The main variables are total square footage of fabric and how many sides and cushions need to be cleaned.
Fabric type. Microfiber and most synthetic fabrics are straightforward to clean. Natural fibers like cotton, linen, wool, and velvet require more care and take longer. Delicate or antique upholstery is a separate conversation.
Condition. A couch that’s had regular cleaning is a different job than one that hasn’t been cleaned in four years. Ground-in body oil, heavy pet hair, and embedded soil require more product and more passes. Routine maintenance cleaning is faster and simpler than restoration cleaning.
Pet odor treatment. A surface clean doesn’t remove pet odor from fabric. The dirt causing the smell are in the cushion foam, not just on the fabric surface. If there’s been urine in the upholstery, P.U.R.T. (Pet Urine Removal Treatment) targets the dirt at the source and is priced as a separate treatment.
Number of pieces. Cleaning a sofa, loveseat, and two chairs together costs less per piece than cleaning one item in isolation, because setup time is shared across the job.
Our minimum service charge
Our minimum service charge is $150. For most jobs involving a sofa or multiple pieces, the total will run higher. But it gives you a floor to plan from.

Why cheap quotes usually mean steam cleaning
The lowest upholstery cleaning prices you’ll find are almost always steam cleaning. It’s fast, low-cost to operate, and looks effective in the short term. The problem is the water volume.
Steam cleaning saturates fabric with hot water and detergent. Upholstered furniture can take 24 hours or more to dry, and while it’s wet, mold and mildew have a window to take hold. The soap remnants left in the fibers re-attracts soil, meaning furniture gets dirty again faster after a steam clean than after a low-moisture clean.
For upholstery specifically, over-wetting also risks shrinking the fabric, warping cushion foam, and separating the fabric backing.
We use Hot Carbonating Extraction: about 80% less water than steam cleaning. The carbonation does the lifting work, not the volume of water. Your upholstery dries in 1-2 hours and stays cleaner longer because there’s no dirt-attracting remnants left in the fabric.
