Wood Floor Cleaning Without Sanding

A professional clean takes off what a damp mop leaves behind: the gray film in traffic lanes, the grime packed along baseboards, the dull patch by the sink.

It won’t fix everything. Deep gouges, bare wood, water-stained boards and a finish worn through to raw wood need a refinisher, not a cleaner. We’ll tell you which one your floor needs before any work starts.

When the finish is still intact, a cleaning plus a fresh coat of polish brings back a lot of the shine, without the dust or the days out of the room that sanding takes.

Locally owned since 1998, Brooke’s Chem-Dry cleans solid hardwood, engineered wood and luxury vinyl tile in Liberty homes. The carpet, rugs and furniture in the same rooms can go on the same visit.

How a Wood Floor Visit Works

1. Check the finish

Your certified technician walks the floor with you first: scratches, worn spots, gaps between boards and the type of finish. If it needs refinishing instead of cleaning, you hear it now, before you’ve paid for anything.

2. Strip old polish or coating

Years of store-bought polish or an old acrylic coating can trap dirt underneath, so if we find a layer like that, it comes off first.

3. Clean

We tape off cabinets, appliances and baseboards. Then the technician cleans with a solution and equipment made for wood and pulls the loosened dirt back out.

4. Polish

Polish goes down last. It adds gloss and a thin protective coat. Before we pack up, you’ll get the wait time for shoes, pets and furniture.

Old Floors in an Old Town

Liberty has a lot of old buildings: the city’s Century Project recognizes nearly 250 in town that are more than 100 years old. Per the Census, about 41% of Liberty’s homes were built before 1980 and about 16% before 1960.

William Jewell College, at 500 College Hill, was chartered in 1849 and named for William Jewell, a physician and Baptist layman who donated land for it. Leonard Street, the city says, was the most direct route from the Square to the Missouri River and the Liberty Landing steamboat dock, so merchants built large homes along it, set back from the street. That stretch is now the Arthur-Leonard Historic District: 11 acres and 36 contributing buildings from about 1868 to 1946, on the National Register since 2001.

Another of Liberty’s older neighborhoods has its own page: Brooke’s Chem-Dry in the Jewell-Lightburne Historic District.

1980s Floors and Craftsman Houses

Not every Liberty wood floor is a century old. The median Liberty home was built in 1986, so a floor from that year has close to 40 years of chair legs, boots and dogs on it. The city also points to the Dougherty-Prospect Heights district for some of Liberty’s finest Prairie and Craftsman architecture.

Old or newer, the first question is the same. Is the finish intact? Rugs over those floors get their own care through area rug cleaning in Liberty, MO. The kitchen and bath floors go to tile cleaning in Liberty, MO, and the bedrooms upstairs to carpet cleaning in Liberty, MO.

N

Deep Cleaning Technology

Grit is what dulls a finish. Our process lifts the dirt ground into traffic lanes and along the baseboards. A dust mop just moves it around.

N

Expert Technicians

Our certified technicians check the floor with you before anything else. A loose board or a spot worn to bare wood gets pointed out first, not discovered halfway through.

N

Cleaner Chosen for Wood

Wood gets its own cleaning solution and equipment, not our carpet setup, and the technician matches the approach to the finish you have instead of one routine for every floor.

N

A Clear Wait Time

You won’t be left guessing. Before leaving, your technician tells you how long your floor needs, which depends on the wood, the finish and whether it got polish.

N

Protective Finishing

After cleaning, a coat of polish brings back the gloss and lays a protective film over the finish you already have, so the next year of chair legs and paws wears on the polish first.

N

Care Matched to Your Floor

A century-old floor near the Square and a newer engineered floor don’t get the same treatment. We look at the wood, the finish and how the room gets used, then give you the plan and the price.

Wood Floor Cleaning in Liberty: Common Questions

Will cleaning damage a wood floor?

Not when the finish is intact. We check the finish before we start and clean on top of it, and if your floor has bare spots, deep gouges or water damage, we’ll tell you it needs a refinisher instead.

Do you have to sand hardwood to clean it?

No. Sanding takes off the finish and a layer of wood. Cleaning works on top of the finish, so when the finish is sound, a clean and a coat of polish is often all it needs.

How long until we can walk on the floor?

It depends on the floor and on whether it gets polish, and your technician gives you the exact wait before leaving. Keep furniture and sock feet off fresh polish until then.

How much does wood floor cleaning cost?

Square footage and the condition of the finish set most of it, plus any old polish that has to be stripped and whether you add the polish coat. The quote is free. Call (816) 841-4776.

Do you clean engineered wood and laminate?

We clean solid hardwood, engineered wood and luxury vinyl tile. Laminate depends on the product, so tell us what you have and we’ll say whether it’s a fit.
