The Northland, Grown Up Around Zona Rosa
The Northland spans Clay and Platte County and is home to more than 360,000 people. Zona Rosa opened its first phase along the interstate in May 2004 with about 500,000 square feet, and has grown past 1 million square feet of shops, restaurants and apartments since. It’s one of the reasons the Northland reads as newer and more spread out than the neighborhoods south of the river: a lot of the housing, and the retail built to serve it, went in over the last two decades rather than the last century.
Homes out here also tend to sit on bigger lots than what you’d find closer to downtown, and the mix of long driveways, walkout basements and yards big enough for a dog run shows up in the kind of calls we get. A carpet in a Northland house is less likely to be original to the home and more likely to be dealing with what an active household and an active yard track in on a daily basis, which is a different problem than old carpet in an old house, even if the fix looks similar from the outside.
